Two men who prayed

The Pharisee did not go to the Temple to pray to God but to announce to all within earshot how good he was. (Luke 18,9)

The tax collector went to the Temple recognizing his sin and begging for mercy. Self-righteousness is dangerous and can lead to pride, may causes a person to despise others, and prevent him from learning anything from God. We all need God’s mercy every day; don’t let pride in your achievements cut you off from God!

O DIVINE MASTER, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood, as to understand; to be loved as to love; for it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned and it is in dying, that we are born to eternal life. (Saint Francis of Assisi)
