A Sunfay of All Saints.
"Be holy as your heavenly Father is holy" (Mt. 5:48).
Holiness of life is not an option but a request.
All Christians, in any state or walk of life are called to the fullness of Christian life and to the perfection of charity. We are capacitated by the grace of the Holy Spirit who decended at Pentecost to love in Jesus Christ.
Jesus has saved us from sin and death for a new way of living.
"Although He was a Son, He learned obedience through what He suffered, and being made perfect He became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey Him" (Hebrews 5:8).
He came into the world to redeem, to transform us by His life, death and Resurrection.
He fulfilled His purpose when He presided over the new creation from the Alter of the Cross and robbed death of its victory by bursting forth from a tomb which could not cntain Love.
Specific 'imperatives' of Christian life and principles for acting morally, stem from the relationship to God through Christ by the Holy Spirit :
- admonish the idle, cheer the faithearted,
- support the week, be patient with all,
- no one should return evil for evil,
- rejoice always, pray without ceasing,
- give thanks in all circumstances,
- do not quench the Spirit,
- test everything, retain what is good,
- refrain from every kind of evil. (Thessalonians 5:15)
